The Simpler Side of Soccer

Advanced Program
For those who access this page and are not members of our APDP program, you may wonder what that is all about.  Below is an explanation of the program, which seems to be extremely successful.

It is based on the European academy programs, particularly the Dutch approach of allowing players to develop mentally by finding their own solutions rather than coaches doing so for them.

Advanced Player Development Program (APDP)

The program is designed outside the normal coaching approach of recreational soccer. The intent is to develop players who seek future participation in competitive soccer.
Current APDP revolves around an important but simple approach: Limit the amount of coaching while players are involved in scrimmage or games, and develop a player who is better skilled mentally on the field, resulting in improved physical abilities.
Players and their parents/guardians in the program are expected to be fully committed to APDP and its concept. Those who do, find themselves at a distinct advantage during game play. Those who don't comply to our rules, are asked to leave the program.
The fundamentals of soccer are still expected to be taught by the recreational coaches. APDP coaches work to develop improved strategic skills; dynamic passing, possession ball play and more. It is not goal scoring that is the emphasis, but rather advantage positioning, space passing and other team skills. If players perform APDP skills as expected, scoring goals is the developed result.

The program is somewhat modeled on the Dutch and other European academy organizations where the emphasis is to not over-coach players, as is the tendency of many of our youth coaches. By not over coaching but giving proper guidance, players learn to not rely on adults at the touchlines for playmaking, but rather on their own skills as well as their teammates’ abilities. They learn to gauge teammates' reactions during play, some of whom may better react to situations than others.
